Life Skills Development

Life skills development is an essential aspect of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), aimed at assisting people with disability to acquire or improve their ability to manage their daily activities, interact with others and participate fully in their communities. As a registered NDIS service provider, Ream Community Services offers a range of life skills development services designed to meet the unique needs and preferences of each person with disability. Our dedicated team of professionals works closely with individuals, families, and carers to identify their goals and aspirations and develop tailored support plans to achieve them.

Our life skills development services cover a broad range of areas, including personal care and hygiene, household management, communication, social and community participation, and much more. Our team provides hands-on support to help individuals acquire or improve their skills and confidence in these areas.

It’s important to note that these services are not limited to the examples above, and each person’s support plan will be tailored to their specific needs and goals.

Ream Community Services offers a Life Skills Enhancement Program that is designed to support individuals with disability to develop the skills and confidence they need to live more independently and achieve their goals. The program is offered in a series of workshops, participants who use assistive technology are more than welcome to bring along their own assistive technology to the workshops.

Life Skills Development

The program is tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals, and covers a range of areas such as personal care and hygiene, budgeting and money management, meal planning and preparation, home maintenance and cleaning, social skills and relationships, time management and organization, health and wellbeing, community participation, employment and vocational skills, as well as follow a recipe, safety tips while cooking, road safety, emergency response action, budgeting, numeracy, shopping guide, and knowing oneself.

Assistance with travel and transport

This may include support with navigating public transport or assistance with driving.

Assistance with communication and social skills

This may include support with developing communication skills, social interaction, and relationship-building.

Support with community participation

This may include assistance with participating in community activities, accessing community services, and building social networks.

Assistance with skill development

This may include support with developing skills related to employment, education, and vocational training.

Assistance with healthy behaviours and exercise

This may include support with developing healthy habits, physical exercise, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Assistance with setting priorities

To be eligible for the Life Skills Enhancement Program at Ream Community Services, individuals must be an NDIS participant and have funding approval in at least one of the following areas:

  • Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building)
  • Increased Social and Community Participation (Capacity Building)
  • Assistance with Daily Life (Core Supports)
  • Assistance with Social and Community Participation (Core Supports).

You can complete the Life Skills Enhancement Program at your own pace without any pressure.

At any of our Ream Community services “activity centre”. The workshops run on a 1:1 basis and also group basis. The program runs All year long and Intakes are welcome at any time.

The program welcomes people of all ages.
